Buddha By You, Buddha Than Me

Wisdom In Weirdness

OK, so you may or may not consider Buddhism a religion or be into some of its trendy or more traditional aspects.

What's clear though, for me at least, is that it's a hell of a lot more palatable than most of the other ridiculous religious claptrap out there. And a lot wiser too, to the point of almost self-negating itself out of existence, which might actually be the whole point, I'll get back to you on that one!

Anyway, there's a huge amount of thought-provoking and certainly sensible stuff in what they say, and here's an example in this Frabulism.

As most serious skeptics come fitted with a finely-tuned bullshit detector and a withering sense of humour, I'll be including plenty of quotes from proponents of the usual faith-based nonsense too, for our general edification, amusement and yes, occasionally, enlightenment as well...

God Made Me Do It!

10 Out of 10 for...

... stating the bleeding obvious. But sometimes it still needs to be done.

OK, maybe it's a bit mean to say that people with gods kill people, because of course an awful lot of people without gods kill people too, that's a fact.

In case you might be thinking that in publishing this pithy anonymous internet quote I'm suggesting that only people with gods kill people... I'm not.

What I'm not doing though is making any apologies for those people with gods who kill people in the name of those gods. For them there's no excuse.

Butterfly Wings & Other Things

Whaddya Knew, It's No.2!

Today's Frabulism sees me introducing the other aspect of this feature: original thoughts, coz quotes are qute but contributing something new is always what I'm really about.

I'll be bringing a potentially huge range of influences to these bite-sized nibbles because human knowledge is vast and the temptation to revel and rollick in it is one I can't resist.

Messing around with thoughts, words and minds is something I enjoy, so watch out for some weird and wonderful messing around and feel free to say hi as usual of course!

Frabulisms Are GO!

Frabu-wotisms? FRABULISMS, that's wot.

Frabulisms are a fresh new way to discover original quotes (by moi) and rediscover some classics (by others) in the name of Revelling in the Real and Tossing Turds at the Absurd, like it says on the tin!

Here's the first so you can see what I'm talking about:

Feel free to spread and share the slime as far and wide as a wide mouthed frog can crack a smile - so that would be wide!

I may also be enlarging of some of the pearls of wisdom or drolery contained within - time will tell.

In the meantime, feel free to sound off either here, on Facebook or Twitter (or Google+, obviously...) and tell me what you think, the more the merrier.

Wake Up!

POSTED IN:  ~ Religion Islam Britain

Wake Up!

This is from an American programme with some righteously indignant presenters over themselves about what's happening in good ol' Britain.

And good for them.

Of course 'Good Ol' Britain' hasn't always  been 'good' or 'ol'' but you know where they're coming from.

Have a laugh at the 'if only they were proper Christians' line for more on that. But effectively it's a thought-provoking report and worrying at that.

As they say in the documentary, even moderate Muslims don't really want radicalisation of their adopted country. After all, what sane person would want Sharia law installed anywhere, never mind in a modern western country like Britain? Get real.

Muslims Lose It

Muslims Lose It

The problem is, logic and even funny and utterly obvious comments in 'blasphemous' cartoons doesn't come into it.

They are incapable of seeing otherwise.

It is an affront to their very being - the extremists that is.

They have been brainwashed to the extreme. Even to the extent of not understanding that living in another, far more clement country than their own, such as Sweden, graciously, does not mean that they can then impose their extremist views upon others.

An edifying video.

Here Is The News

Another from Charlie Brooker, seeing as I've just discovered him, and am still waiting for the aura to wear off...

This one is achingly real, and makes you think about the reality that surrounds us.

It's somewhat scary, if you hadn't realised it already...

Pre-Blessed Food

This guy...

I've just discovered him, a certain Julian Smith, and...

... I reckon you should know about him. He's funny. Funny peculiar. And possibly one of a kind.

Forging his way through the interweb, and good for him. As we're all trying to do, no?

Just that he seems to have found a rich, if totally crazy vein to tap. Bless you.

Gravely Funny

POSTED IN:  ~ Religion Hitchens Humour

Gravely Funny

I read somewhere, I can't remember where but it could well have been in one of Hitchen's or possibly Dawkins' books, that there isn't any humour in the bible. Not a jot or a tittle, as it were.

And I think this goes for all religious books that take themselves in the slightest bit seriously, probably just in case no-one else does.

In stark contrast, here's someone who isn't even taking his own imminent demise seriously in the face of foul criticism, at least on the spur of this moment.

Although you can think what you like about the hardly rare vices of smoking, drinking, and the worst of all of course - laughing at biblical bullshit - but at least he does laugh. That's admirable.

Taking Things Literally

POSTED IN:  ~ Religion

You Take Things Too Literally

OK, OK, I'm on a Yoo Toob vid-out, but there's so much incredible stuff out there, once you start, it's pretty hard to stop.

The most remarkable thing about this one is that someone took the time to make it, and of course the excellent ironical satire behind it, driving the point home.

Sweet.

Love this. It's pretty cute.

Still explaining stuff to the afflicted that the rest of us know already, but none the less funny/peculiar for it.

Giving Up My Religion

POSTED IN:  ~ Religion

Giving Up My Religion

Sorry I've been away for so long folks, but thanks for still stopping by.

Just discovered the sweetest little vid - if you're ever wanting the gentlest but still pretty straightforward way of convincing someone to 'Give it up' (religion, not 'for' religion) then this might do the trick.

Beautifully put (I was going to say 'argued' but it's not even that) from a gently spoken man who talks from a point of view I can never share, as I was never indoctrinated in the first place, but his humility and humanity speaks volumes.

It's funny, for a Brit like myself, to hear a Statesian speaking like this, when we have their reputation as a 'God-fearing' nation (lovely), but then again we all know they're not all that lost. The pressure of society can be a terrible thing though.

I Believe In Dreams

I Believe In Dreams

Oh yes, I do, folks! Sorry to disappoint you, but spirituality (i.e. having feelings) has nothing to do with boring, blubbering religions, and everything to do with us folks these days.

As any teenager and otherworldly thinker will tell you.

We all like to dream.

By the way, I used to headbang to this waaayyyy back in 1987 I think it was, when I went to a cool hippie / hard rock place during my decadent uni days in Bradford. Those were, indeed, the days. <sigh>

Working Out For Jesus

POSTED IN:  ~ Music ~ Homeopathy

Working Out For Jesus

Thanks to The Freethinker for this one, and a great article to boot.

Seems that a Kentucky artist is leading a butched-up Jesus. According to the Guardian article, 'This time he's less "gentle Jesus, meek and mild" and more of a kick-ass action hero - a Chuck Norris in sandals'.

Just what we all need. The new beefed-up saviour movement includes books like 'No More Mr Christian Nice Guy' and 'The Church Impotent - the Feminisation of Christianity'.

Apparently the model for the picture above was a surfer dude who was 'built like a brick shithouse' according to the artist. Nice. Painting tatts on onself is generally frowned on by the Big Daddy, though, but hey, who gives a monkey's, right?

I reckon Jesus freaks must be a bit jealous about the excesses their mirror images over in Muslimland can go to in real life and which they can only see for fake in movies. Where there's frustration there's usually bad things to follow. Where will it all end? When we stop believing in fairy tales?
